History of algorithms : ウィキペディア英語版 | History of algorithms
Algorithms are as old as mathematic. Even the ancient civilizations used algorithms, both in the design of important things, as well as in everyday life. The name itself was created in the 12th century as a synonym for the mathematical method. With the advent of computers begins formalization of algorithms, and they become the basis of the software. Today they are used in almost every area. == Origin of the word == In the 9th century AD Persian mathematician and astronomer Muhammad al-Khwarizmi, often called as ,,the father of algebra" wrote a book ,,about Indian numbers" in which the scientist gave a description of a set of procedures and precise rules for various calculations. This work will be translated in the 12th century into Latin as ,,Algorithms de numero Indorum" where the word ,,algorithms" is supposed to represent latin surname scientists. However, the word becomes a synonym for further computational methods.
